When You’re In One Of The World’s Most Beautiful Places And The Weather Sucks
The weather has been really very accommodating for most of our trip. Of course, a few bullets have been dodged—a tornado ripped through Oklahoma just behind our hasty retreat and threat of hurricane kept temptation at bay and our Outer Banks departure on schedule. I don’t think I had a chance to write about the morning that I awoke to find 5” of snow on the ground and more falling every minute? That’s a good story.
Today we’ve arrived in Acadia National Park along with a slow-moving low pressure system. It’s wet and cold and likely to stay that way for days. Glass half-full—we’ve got the place to ourselves. Popular pull-overs are as empty as the windswept beaches.
Intrepid explorers that we are, I’m certain we’ll manage to get out there and “Find Our Park.” But I’m also working on a plan to gain access to one of Bar Harbor’s fine spa facilities. A hot soak sounds good right about now.
Eat: Located part-way between Boothbay and Bar Harbor, Crissy’s in Damariscotta—was the perfect breakfast stop for our Sunday morning road trip. Beautiful baked goods, spiked beverages and bar where you can dine while you chat with your neighbors—all snugged into a converted old house. So good.
