Grand
A dozen years ago I decided that I would get married in Grand Teton National Park on the shores of a mountain lake. I had never been there. My selection was based entirely on having seen photos like this one. We ultimately settled on a location closer to home (have you priced airfare to Jackson Hole?), so last week's visit to the Tetons was my first.
The drama and beauty of the place is stunning. Literally. Words, thoughts and plans can't compete with the park's idyllic alpine scenery. It looks like a Hollywood movie set. Definitely awe inspiring. You should go.
Stay: I reserved a campsite at Colter Bay Village months in advance because I could confirm cell service and wifi, both of which I needed for work. It's location and amenities were convenient, but if I had it to do over again, I would roll the dice with the walk-in Signal Mountain Campground. Adjacent to the lodge and marina, it's perched on a quiet Jackson Lake bay with some sites offering mountain and water views like the one above.
Play: There are few bargains to be found in Jackson, WY, but for $7 you can swim, soak, slide and shower at Teton County Parks' Recreation Center which also offers free wifi and big rig parking.
Eat: In a town where a grass-fed artisan burger and locally brewed beer will run you $25 or more, you can still enjoy a classic breakfast with the locals—if you are willing to wait on the Virginian's ample deck.
